Are you ready to make incredible things happen this year?
In Corporate America, most businesses go through a process of strategic planning each year. They figure out where they want to be a year from now and they determine what needs to happen to get there.
Treat your business with the same level of focus. We encourage you to create your success vision each and every year. Describe what your life will look like a year from now, in each of these eight categories:
Your Business
Your Professional Development
Family and Relationships
Health and Wellness
Personal Growth
Faith and Inspiration
Financial
Community and Making a Difference
Your vision describes where you want to be a year from now. It describes your destination. But it doesn't tell you what you should be doing today to get there. That's where your quarterly goals come in.
A new success habit we encourage you to start is the concept of a quarterly goal-setting session. Your vision, yet achievable, may seem very big and overwhelming. So let's break it down to bite-sized chunks. Each quarter, you'll be asking yourself "what can I do in the next 3 months to get me a step closer to achieving my year's vision?"
You'll need to decide when (and how) you'll do these goal-setting sessions and get them on your calendar now. We encourage that these sessions be done at the end of the prior quarter. For example, you may be following the standard calendar quarters, so you'll have a set of quarterly goals for Jan through March, April through June, July through September and October through December. So when it's time to create your 2nd quarter's goals (which will be for the month's of April, May and June), we suggest that you hold your planning session at the end of March. So your "self reminder" to hold these sessions can be prompted by seeing the appointment, with yourself, on your calendar.
Think about how to make these planning sessions fun, while being productive. This can increase the likelihood that you'll actually incorporate this into your regular routine. Get into the habit of "planning to succeed."
When it's time to hold the quarterly goal-setting session, pull out your vision and review it. We suggest that you create twelve goals each quarter. First, identify the two categories (out of the eight categories of your vision) that will require your most immediate attention. These two "high priority" categories may or may not change each quarter. In these two categories, we suggest that you have three goals per each category. For the other six categories of your life, we suggest that you have one goal. Consistently working on one goal in each category every quarter, keeps us from being lopsided in our life, and it helps to make sure we're moving ahead (although at different speeds) in all aspects of our life.
Lastly, the key is to figure out a way in which you can keep your vision and your goals front and center in your mind!
Through the process of creating your year's success vision, by creating twelve goals each quarter, and by frequently reviewing your vision and goals...you're well on your way to an incredible year! And we'll be cheering you on every step of the way!
